Product Review Philosophy Miracle Foundation

One of the deals I was most excited about for Ulta's 21 days of Beauty was the philosophy foundation. They just came out with a new miracle worker foundation I was dying to try. I snagged a box of shade 5 and rushed home to try it out.

Coverage: this foundation offered medium coverage which I typically use. It's just enough to cover minor blemishes and even out my skin tone. I also didn't need to use more than one pump which helps it last longer. It was easily spread with my foundation brush without feeling heavy.

Color: I matched my color in the store and thought it would be good. After I tried it at home, I wasn't so happy with the final look. It gave my skin more of an ashy, dry feel than a dewy look I typically get. I used the same moisturizer and primer I always do but was unhappy with the final look.

Wear: Despite my reservations about the look it gave my skin, I wanted to try it out to see how it lasted throughout the day. I'm happy to say that it didn't wear off as far as I could tell. My skin did look a little less dry as the day went on, but that's probably attributed to natural oils. I don't think that it really helped conceal some fine lines.

Verdict: I wasn't satisfied with immediate result after applying. After going about my day, I was happier with how my skin looked. Unfortunately I don't think that the end result looks any different from my MUFE foundation. I will definitely continue with the normal routine. I was definitely disappointed in the foundation, but mainly because they didn't have a wide variety of color options. There were only 8 shades to choose from. I did love that it had 30 SPF which my current favorite doesn't offer. If your skin tone is close to one of the 8 they offer, this would be a great option for you, but if you're typically hard to match I wouldn't get your hopes up.

  1. This is such a great, honest review! I'm still very new to makeup, especially foundations so this was incredibly helpful :)

  2. That's unfortunate that you didn't like the foundation. I've heard philosophy was a good brand, so it's a bit surprising. It really is hit or miss with foundations, though. I've returned many foundations because I wasn't happy with the results they gave. You should definitely try Bobbi Brown's (Long Wear, Even Finish) Compact Foundation. It's pricy - definitely the most I've ever spent on foundation - but I LOVE how it looks. It matches my skin perfectly and though it's natural looking, it still covers imperfections.

  3. PS - I've got to know what mascara you're using!
