Savoring the last few days

With only a few days left of break, I'm wearing as many not school approved outfits as possible. That means my favorite jeans and pants are getting a good workout. These brown pants are the most comfortable pants I've ever owned. I also have a pair in royal blue. They come in tons of great colors, but I've only ever seen them in a small boutique in Blowing Rock, NC. Luckily they are now available online! Go grab a pair or two, I promise you won't regret it.

I was never a fan of jeans until I found this great pair at J.Crew. They fit so well, don't stretch out over time, and are the perfect dark wash. I've had this pair for a few years and they still look great.

Dreaming of Spring

I firmly believe that if the temperature drops below 32 degrees it should snow. If it doesn't, then it should warm back up. Unfortunately for those of us in SC, there is no snow and it's not warming up yet. All I can do is dream warm spring days and the pretty colors that go along with them. I've found some things that would fit nicely in my closet when those days finally arrive.

Organizing your new year

I have a thing for school supplies, particularly anything that helps me get my life and mind organized. Every new year I begin the search for a great planner, as of yet I haven't found one that I love everything about. Enter Mochi Things.
I actually found 5 planners that I adored, and the hard part then became which one to purchase.

1. Bebe Planner: this planner comes in several great colors, and includes both monthly, and weekly planning pages as well as 6 world maps to track your travels.

2. Daily Log 2014: I chose to purchase this book because of it is the perfect size to carry in my purse, or pop into my white coat pocket if need be. It features 13 months and 116 pages of weekly schedules. It also had some of the better color choices for me.

3. Mini Petit a Petit planner: This precious planner is complete with a world map, 116 weekly planning pages, 26 pages of money planning, as well as Parisian illustrations to start your month off. I really liked this planner, but wasn't sure I wanted the extra pages if I ended up carrying it in my white coat.

4. Petit a Petit planner v4: This planner was actually my first choice. First off, I loved the simple Parisian decor (much like the one above), but what really sold me was the size. This planner is just a tad larger than the one I actually purchased, but features a nice binding that I really loved. The only major difference between the Petit a Petit above was it's size. Unfortunately, the colors in this one were almost all sold out, and as of now it is completely sold out.

5. Paris Scheduler v2: I obviously have a thing for Paris, as yet another Paris planner was a contender. This planner has what seemed like the most pages for planning your year. It comes with 24 pages for months, and 120 pages for weekly planning. This little beauty also comes with a plastic {the call PVC} cover to protect it from the elements.

Mochi Things also has stickers and pens to use in your new planner. I may or may not have perused their site for a few hours. I just can't help myself around new school supplies! And on top of their huge selection and already good prices, they are having a New Year's sale until the 5th giving anywhere from 10-25% off.

Flannel fashion

Flannel is certainly not just for men anymore. Here are two looks we put together to prove that point.

In with the new!

The New Year has arrived! I am thrilled to see what this year will bring. With only three months until I start rotations, I can't even imagine how much I will learn and get to do throughout the year.

Our New Year's Eve was better than expected. The boys went fly fishing for the various types of trout in the NC mountain streams while us girls brunched and went shopping. Here are some pictures of our day.

We ate brunch at a quaint restaurant on Main St in Blowing Rock called Story Street Grille. The food was amazing and the decor was simply perfect. I may or may not be stealing a few ideas for our home.
Fried green tomatoes + pimento cheese

Monte Cristo + fried okra

I am loving the gold frames on the gallery wall as well as the lighting above.

Later that evening, we got all dressed up for dinner and the celebrations that followed.

The hubby and me before dinner.

I promise my pup is not evil.

We were very lucky to score reservations at The New Public House in downtown Blowing Rock. Add this place to your must eat list if you are ever in the area. Seriously, their quail was the best I've ever eaten not to mention the atmosphere was fun and inviting.

I'd love a few of these chairs in my home.

Fried quail + bourbon glaze + Black eyed pea cake
Rack of lamb + Clemson Bleu cheese potatoes
Maine Lobster
We then headed to our favorite place to ring in the new year, Twigs. It's a bit of a hole in the wall place, but it never disappoints. They always have a live band that starts the party.

Some of my favorite girls
We headed back south this morning. While Blowing Rock is a beautiful town, I sure do miss the salt water and weather back home. It's always good to get away for a little while, it makes you appreciate what you have so much more. After unpacking and unwinding a bit, I cooked my first Hoppin' Johns dinner. I subbed the collard greens for brussel sprouts (New Public House got me hooked) and made my grandma's recipe corn bread. I must say, this year started out perfectly!
