Friday afternoon we made an impromptu decision to visit the mountains of North Carolina for the weekend. After work we fueled up and headed off to cooler weather.
After arriving, we settled into our cozy room. My in-laws have an amazing view of the mountains. It's so peaceful and serene.
Bright and early the next morning, my mother-in-law and I took the pups out on the trails. We hiked the Boone Fork Trail which is a total 5 mile circle with gorgeous views and several small waterfalls.
Almost three hours later, tired and hungry, we headed to the local Mexican restaurant for drinks and eats. This may have been the best burrito I've ever had (fajita burrito: grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes, and chicken wrapped in a tortilla covered with cheese).
Later that evening, we headed out to
The Best Cellar for dinner. The service was rather slow, but the food was particularly delicious. I started the evening with their special Gimlet, then enjoyed a caesar salad, and the veal special of the night. It was most definitely the tastiest veal I've eaten at any restaurant (my dad makes rather delicious veal and his is always the best).
A great meal is never complete without a great dessert. My go-to is always the creme brûlée. This one had an added hint of coffee which was the perfect addition to perk me up after our long hike that day.
Of course I couldn't go without tasting their Chocolate Torte either. It was good, but I'm always partial to creme brûlée.
Sunday we headed to a "classified" fishing spot in the middle of nowhere so the boys could do some fly fishing. It's not quite as secret as we thought. We saw several fish, but the boys didn't catch any. I did get some great pictures from the place.
We dined at the New Public House that evening and it did not disappoint. They have a fantastic take on quail that you must not miss if you're in the area.
Monday morning we headed out to rent kayaks. The view from this lake is simply awe-inspiring.
We ended our morning with an early Barbecue lunch before loading up and heading home. This little nugget was all tuckered out.
