Sushi by the Seashore

My husband tends to say that I am very picky about where I eat. I like to think that I like to eat good food. Don't get me wrong, I'll try most anything once. Once I've found a favorite though, it's hard to convince me to change that up. Previously, I had the most amazing sushi restaurant in Augusta, GA. The owner knew my grandparents for thirty years, but sadly they closed leaving me without a go-to sushi restaurant.  Once I moved to the Lowcountry, Jared and I tried various Japanese & Sushi restaurants before finally unearthing this gem: Hana Sushi & Fusion. It is tucked in a shopping and restaurant center just before the bridge to Hilton Head Island.

Five on Friday

Friday has arrived! Hooray! Lucky for me I don't have school today, but to make up for it I have my "practice" board test on Saturday. Yep, I've got to take a 4 hour test on Saturday morning, but thankfully it won't count as a real grade. It's just to give us an idea of what subjects we need to focus on during our clinical year. Ok enough about tests, on to the fabulous Friday favorites!

One
This amazing Sand-Free mat acts like a filter and allows sand that falls on the top to sift through but doesn't allow the sand from under you to come through. What does this mean? Less sand on your things at the beach! It's actually a genius invention. I'm going to need one of these soon.

Two
I stopped by Hancock Fabrics the other day and picked up a few beautiful pieces of fabric. I have a few ideas in mind for the chiffon, but I'm still trying to plan exactly what I want to do with silk print. I'm thinking a lovely dress for warmer months.

Three
This is the most elegant dining room I have ever seen. It could not get any more perfect. I know I tend to pin so many things that I really love and may never actually want, but this one is different. The chairs, the detailed walls, all of it. This one is going in my real home planning book.

Four
My sister found this lovely dress on Pinterest, and I must say that I'm slightly obsessed. Couldn't you just imagine this blowing in the wind on a sailboat somewhere tropical?

Five
Erin over at Hearts & Crafts makes some amazing things with reclaimed pallets. How great are these?

Don't forget to follow along to keep up with all the fun!

Thanks again to the lovely ladies Natasha, Darci, Christina and April for hosting! Also linking up with Lauren Elizabeth, Av, and Lauren for their Friday Favorites.

Kendra's night at the Palms

The beautiful Kendra Thornton, mother of three, contacted me about participating in her Night Out challenge for her trip to Las Vegas, but I'll let her tell you more about it:

Every busy mom deserves a time to let loose and feel like a million bucks. As a mother of three, I don't often get the chance to get dolled up and feel glamorous. Plus, as I am 40-years-old, sometimes I feel like different looks are either way too young or way too matronly for me. This is why I need help and why I created Kendra's Fashion Challenge. I need some guidance on what to wear during my glamorous and exciting night out at the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas.
Specifically, I need some help on deciding what to wear to the Scarlet Bar. The Scarlet Bar isn't some giant, loud nightclub. Rather, it's the perfect place for someone like me. It's a tiny, intimate but elegant bar that features hand-crafted cocktails and an exclusive, glamorous lounge setting. The right outfit for a place like this definitely wouldn't be some sequined club dress, but rather something more mysterious. I don't want to feel like a mom of three who's trying to look like a 21-year-old, but rather an elegant and sophisticated woman. Think "old Hollywood."

Las Vegas is the perfect place to let loose and get away from it all, but you can't enjoy it if you don't have the right outfit. I attempted to pair my outfits with the different areas I was going to visit and used Gogobot’s reviews to research the Las Vegas hotels and attractions. The city of sin is known for its glitzy and daring style, but for where I'm going, I need something that's fashionable and elegant but not over-the-top. Will it be a little black dress paired with a stunning pair of printed heels? Or should I be a little more daring and wear something in a bold color or design? This night won't be perfect unless I have the perfect outfit, so help me to choose the best ensemble for my glamorous evening at the Scarlet Bar.
So taking that information, here is the outfit that I planned for her, a chic, fun, and stylish outfit to enjoy Sin City.

Night in Vegas

My take on her trip is a sleek and classy black dress paired with some of my favorite heels of the season. Add a tortoise clutch and few bits of edgy jewelry and there you have it! I'd love to hear what you'd wear on a night out in Vegas!

Tapas at Emily's

This weekend we headed to a lovely tapas restaurant in Beaufort, SC. We've been in love with this place for a while, but we haven't visited this year yet. We rounded up a big group of friends and dined on some delicious plates.

Pate Maison | pate de fois gras served with capers, unions, cornichons, & dijon mustard.
My favorite combo was with onions and mustard on a crisp wafer.

French Cut Lamb Chops | grilled lamb chops over mint demi glaze
This was by far my most favorite tapas of the evening. We've decided that we're ordering the lamb entree next time because it was so good.

Grilled Quail | European marinated quail over béarnaise sauce
This one used to be one of my favorites and has increasing moved down the list. I'm not sure if my expectations are so high or if it just isn't the same quality as it was before. It was good, but I'll think twice about ordering it next time.

Key Lime Pie | homemade key lime pie with whipped cream
This pie melted in your mouth. I have to confess that it was so good, I did not share with the group. I could eat this any meal of the day and be perfectly content.

Next time you're in Beaufort, check out this little spot. You may want to try to call ahead, they tend to get pretty busy on the weekends!
